The repository installer bundles the installers for each individual BVQ module into one installation package.
Hence, only a single setup file
bvq-package-repository-installer has to be started on the Server or BVQ Client to install the required modules. Common configuration parameters, such as DB access data, service user and directories need to be entered only once. This way, installation of BVQ is fast, easy and safe.
Once started, the Repository Installer unpacks the individual BVQ modules into subdirectories
bvq-installer\repository of the BVQ installation directory and automatically starts the installation.
It is also possible to install each module seperately using the executables in those directories.
Installation modules of the Repository Installer (All in one)
The installation of BVQ is divided into the respective BVQ modules. Each module has its own wizard which guides the user through the installation. Those modules are:
Step 1: Start of the BVQ Common Installer - consolidated installer
For installation of BVQ a user with local administrative rights is required!
Execute the BVQ installation file bvq-package-repository-installer-<version>.exe with "Run as administrator".
1. Click 'Next'.
2. Choose the BVQ modules you want to install. Click 'Next'.
3. Click 'Next'.
4. Enter the installation path. By default the path is %ProgramFiles%\SVA\BVQ.
The log and config directories are located by default in %PrograData%\SVA\BVQ. Click 'Next'.
5. Enter the appropriate BVQ database host (BVQ DB Server or localhost), database name, user name & password. Click 'Next'.
6. Review your settings and click 'Next'.
7. Enter the installation path for the repository installer itself. By default the directory is %ProgramData%\SVA\BVQ. Click 'Next'.
8. Follow the recommendations if necessary and click 'Next'.
9. Please enter name, password and the domain of the BVQ Windows Service user (if no domain is used, then a dot "." is entered). The service user is usually the same as the BVQ database user.
Choose at 'Wait for start of local DB service' Yes, if the database and scanner are installed on the same server. Click 'Next'.
10. The installation packages of the Repository Installer are copied to the server. Click 'Next' to start the installation of packages.
11. The copy process of the individual installation packages is completed. The installation of the next module will start automatically.
Step 2: BVQ MongoDB Setup Wizard
Install and configure the database server.
1. Click 'Next'.
2. Read the given information and click 'Next'.
3. If necessary change the location of your data directory. All database files will be stored there. Click 'Next'.
4. Depending on your system configuration the installer will give an advice how much memory will be available for MongoDB.
This will be 50% of available memory -1 GB. Set this to 4 GB for a normal system size. For large systems provide more memory.

Step 3: BVQ GUI Setup Wizard
1. Click 'Next' to start the installation.
2. Make your choice to install the GUI just for this specific user or all users. Click 'Next'
3. Create a start menu folder if you like to. 'Next'
4.Create a deskop icon (recommeded) and click 'Next'
5. Enter the memory size the GUI Java process is allowed to use max. For best performance, the value should be chosen as large as possible.
The memory should be at least 2048M (megabytes). For larger environments (more than 1000 VDisks) the value should be
increased, otherwise performance degradation may occur. Then click 'Next'.

Step 4: BVQ Alerting Setup Wizard
1. Click 'Next'.
2. Click 'Next'.
3. Enable alert event email if you want to get notified by Email. Enter appropriate credentials to use an available SMTP server. Click Next
4. Please wait until the installation is completed.
Step 5: BVQ Server Setup Wizard
1. Click 'Next'.
2. Adjust the directory to store the content the BVQ Server creates. This mainly consists of reports and cache data. Click 'Next'.
3. Select Components. BVQ Local Scanner is necessary for SVC/Storwize/IBM Flashsystem and Vmware scan.
Grafana is the BVQ "Dashboard" component. Click 'Next'.
4. BVQ Server Java max heap size = 4096 MB (recommended).
For environments with more than 5000 VDisks increase the max heap size.
5. Local Scanner Java max heap size. For large environments with more than 1500 VDisks increase the Java max heap size.
6. The server interface will be available via Web Browser. Change the default port if you don't want to use port 80.
The report TTL setting will determine how long reports will be stored after generation. Adjust if necessary.
Then click 'Next'.
7. Wait until the installation is completed.
The BVQ installation is now finished.
Connection problem here?
it might take some time until the server starts - you will receive messages that the server is not responding.
So please wait some time until you receive an response from the server.
Step 6: BVQ Server configuration
1. Login with user authentication Click 'Login'.
Use the user u set before for database access
2. BVQ Server Maintenance page - The schema-level of the database is checked and updated if necessary. If an update to a newer BVQ version is performed, the necessary SQL scripts will also be executed at this point.
Click 'Start Migration'.
3. DB schema version update.
4. Enter the performance expiry settings and Click 'Save' and Click 'Next'.
5. Import a new license file. Click 'Upload license' to open the file selector.
6. Upload the license.
7. Click 'Next'.
8. Maintenance completed. BVQ Server is starting up.
Step 7: BVQ Scanner Setup
1. BVQ Server Login http://localhost/login Port= 80 (Default)
2. BVQ Server 'Welcome to the BVQ server'.
3. Scanner configuration.
Click '+SVC' to add SVC/Storwize/ÍBM Flashsystem scanners
Click '+VMware' to add aVMware scanners
4. Configuration of the SVC Scanner:
- Scanner: Enter the cluster IP address of the SVC or full qualified name. Adjust the SVC port only if necessary. Enter the forced topology scan interval (default = 3600s). , the scanner reads every hour the topology objects (VDisk, MDisks, MDisk groups, etc.) of the SVC cluster.
Enter the topology audit log scan interval (default = 60). Thus, the scanner checks every 60 seconds if since the last scan interval new topology objects have been created or changed on the SVC cluster .
5. Enter the VMware credentials and the query interval (Forced topology scan interval). BVQ uses VSphere API communication via HTTPS on port 443
6. Scan result. The first scan can takes a little bit longer.
Step 8: BVQ GUI - Add a connection profile
1. Launch the BVQ GUI
2. If the Select managed systems dialog opens without a selected DB connection you have to create one to connect to the database.
Click the (Add) button and enter the setting to connect to your newly created database. If you're running the GUI and the database on the same host, you can stay with localhost and if you didn't change the default port stay with the default settings.
Adjust the database, username and password to your credentials.
Then click Test connection and if the test was successful click Save & Close to save the connection
3. Cluster and vCenter displayed in the selection dialog. click 'Start'

Setting the load sequence of services
The installation procedure asks, whether the BVQ Database runs as a service on the same server on which the scanner/scheduler is running (local). This helps to specify the correct sequencing of the services-starts, for example, after a server reboot. If both services are running on different servers, this dependency has to be suppressed and therefore the corresponding installer-question has to be answered with 'No'. .
