BVQ Monitoring and Analysis Service

The BVQ Monitoring and Analysis Service gives an overview of the current performance and capacity utilization of the storage the SAN or the VMware environment. In addition, the collected data will allow deeper analysis.
The service is offered in two versions, the Basic Service and Premium Service. The basic service records 14 days of data that can be used for analysis. The premium service has longer recording periods and can be adapted to the wishes of the customer. In addition, the Premium Service includes SAN and a reporting component, in which an SVA service employee creates reports for the customer once a month and provides explanation to the customer if required.

Delivery and Extensions

The scope of delivery includes a BVQ installation (on a server provided by the customer). This installation includes a complete BVQ system without the BVQ GUI and without the reporting module, but it provides a special monitoring interface.

Scope of delivery Basic service

BVQ installation with monitoring interface (without BVQ GUI). Data is not analyzed at the customer site, but sent in for analysis. The BVQ system is set to store 14 days of data as historical data. The number of services per year is specified in the order.

Scope of delivery Premium service

BVQ installation with monitoring interface, without BVQ GUI. Data can be analyzed on-site or sent for analysis. The BVQ system is set up so that the historical data can be store for longer periods. These periods are agreed with the customer. Our recommendation is 120 days.
The number of services per year is specified in the order.
The premium service includes a monthly reporting service. An SVA service employee creates a capacity and performance report and explains it to the customer.
Further adjustments are possible within the following areas:

  • Alerting: Creation of customer-specific alerts and customized for integration purposes.
  • Accounting: Creation of an accounting topology including possible accounting reports
  • Service Level Management: Creation of SLA rules including SLM reports
  • VMware integration Package: Creation of customized VMware reports
  • Copy Services Management: Reporting based on Copy Services information

Adjustment price is calculated based on time spent.

Analysis services for basic and premium service

The following analysis services are available:

  • BVQ Health Check
  • BVQ problem analysis
  • BVQ planning analysis

Each analysis service includes 2 man-days of services to carry out.
In special cases, more than 2 days of service might be necessary (this can occur especially with problem analyses), these additional services will be charged separately.
The required information (eg: detailed problem description for a problem analysis, design requirements for future systems in a planning analysis, etc.) must be made available to the SVA analyst well in advance to the analysis.
In order to carry out the analysis, the data collected with BVQ must be available to the SVA. For basic service, this is done by submitting a database backup. For Premium Service, the analysis can be done by remote access or optionally on site.

BVQ Health Check Analysis

A BVQ Health Check is a standardized analysis of the storage systems that BVQ is monitoring. The main performance data of each system will be under a rigorous analysis. These include both SVC / Storwize internal components, such as node CPU utilization, cache utilization and port utilization as well as external storage providers (external / virtualized storage systems) and storage consumers (VDisks, hosts, etc.).
From this analyzed data, an SVA storage specialist creates a report about the "health status" as well as about possible performance bottlenecks or other issues found in the systems.
The results will be available to the customer and explained (on demand) via webcast or on-site.

BVQ problem analysis

A BVQ problem analysis deals with a specific performance issue mentioned by the customer. The issue must be described in detail beforehand. SVA might request additionally information such as configuration details or log files. Depending on the nature of the problem, additional customer input may be required.
The aim of the problem analysis is to identify the root causes of the problem and to identify possible solutions.

BVQ planning analysis

The goal of the planning analysis is to determine performance requirements to support efficient expansions or new procurement.
In addition to the data collected with BVQ, the customer must provide information about their planned capacity and performance growth.
The results will be available to the customer and will be explained (on demand) via webcast or on-site.
