SVC- All clusters overview

This dashboard displays central metrics from SVC and Storwize nodes. It is recommended that this dashboard is used for all clusters of the complete installation.

A line is drawn in the charts for each cluster, which is the respective maximum value of all nodes or ports of the cluster. The maximum value of all clusters of the last 24 hours is then output in the gauges and marked in color according to level (OK, warning, critical).

The charts have thresholds that should not be exceeded. If they are exceeded, you can use the existing data very quickly to start an analysis on the BVQ GUI or request an analysis with a BVQ expert.

The dashboard consists of 3 areas:

  • Current data: Performance metrics with gauges displays for maximum values with colorings. Should be set to a time range from 6 to 24 hours.

  • Cluster and node tables: Overview of the topology and capacities of the selected clusters and their nodes. This area is collapsed and is only loaded when it is expanded.

  • Long-term display: 120-day overview of performance metrics to find critical periods or even trends over longer periods. This area is collapsed and is only loaded when it is expanded. Due to the large amount of data, long loading times have to be expected here. Not every BVQ edition allows to display 120 days of performance data.


Panels in current data and long term data

All panels in current data also show gauges with value coloring in green, yellow and red


CPU load %
  • Shows the max CPU load % from all nodes for every selected cluster.
  • Gauge always shows the highest value of the last day
  • Thresholds: warning 50%, * critical 70%
Node port utilization %
  • Shows the max node port utilization % from all node ports for every selected cluster.
  • Gauge always shows the highest value of the last day
  • Thresholds: warning 90%, critical 95%
Max cache usage %
  • Shows the max lower cache usage in % of all nodes in the selected clusters.
  • Thresholds: warning 82%, critical 90%
Max node port congestion %
  • Shows the maximum transfer congestion % of all node ports for all selected clusters.
  • Uses logarithmic display
  • FC transfer congestion indicate blockages in the SAN
  • Thresholds: warning 7%, critical 15%

  • Performance metrics with eye-catching speedometer displays for maximum values with colorings.
    Should be set to a time range from 6 to 24 hours.


Cluster Table

  • This area is collapsed and is only loaded when it is expanded
  • Capacity and topology statistics for all selected clusters
  • Capacity and topology statistics for allnodes of the selected clusters


Long term performance statistics

These charts provide a long-term overview and can be used to find critical periods. Not every edition allows to display 120 days of performance data. Depending on the number of clusters it might take longer to display the data. It is possible to split up the dashboard to only show a subset of clusters to reduce load time.

  • This area is collapsed and is only loaded when it is expanded
  • Every Chart shows a fixed period of 120 days
  • The interval size is 24h, the max values of the interval are used
  • be careful with zooming this will change the time settings of the complete dashboard

Hints & restrictions:

  • This dashboard should always display all clusters of the environment
  • If load time becomes too long then please split dashboard into groups of clusters using filters
  • Each Panel has it's own additional help text

Time range and interval settings:

  • Time Range: Recommended is a 12 or 6 hour time frame in monitoring mode
  • Interval: The Interval corresponds to the fixed interval setting in the BVQ GUI. Increase the interval for longer time ranges

Select Options:

  • Objects can only be selected using the drop downs
  • Check boxes within a drop down allows to select multiple objects. For each selected object you will get separate metrics
  • The All options is equal to select all objects in a drop down

Possible adjustments:

  • Depending on the size of your environment this dashboard should either show all clusters in one dashboard or groups of clusters in several instances of this dashboard
    • Duplicate the dashboard and set filter on the drop downs so that only some clusters will be available for the individual dashboards
    • Change some wording from the Textboxes to make it well visible which portion of data you show with this dashboard
    • This is work for some minutes but will help to tailor the wallboards to your individual needs
    • In the dashboard template a filter can be established, so that only selected systems become selectable for this dashboard
